Episode #42: Midnight Cowboy

Ladies & Gentlemen. Welcome to The Envelope Podcast. Here on The Envelope, we discuss & review every Best Picture Winner in the Academy Awards History.
On this episode, we discuss the forty-second Best Picture Winner: “MIDNIGHT COWBOY.”
“Midnight Cowboy” is a buddy drama film based on the 1965 novel of the same name by James Leo Herlihy. Convinced of his irresistible appeal to women, Texas dishwasher Joe Buck quits his job and heads for New York City, thinking he’ll latch on to some rich dowager. New York, however, is not as hospitable as he imagined, and Joe soon finds himself living in an abandoned building with a Dickensian layabout named Enrico “Ratso” Rizzo. The two form a rough alliance, and together they kick-start Joe’s hustling career just as Ratso’s health begins to deteriorate. Directed by John Schlesinger, the film stars Jon Voight as Joe Buck and Dustin Hoffman as Enrico “Ratso” Rizzo.
